Subways are corridors, “underground connections” whose job is to lead and unite people, places, memories and diversity.
They are often seen as run-down and unsafe. The “Under the City’s Skin” project aims to recover some of the town’s subways through maintenance and artistic and cultural research (e.g. those in the areas of the station, viale Ramazzini, Porta S. Croce and Parco del Gelso).
For Fotografia Europea. Reggio Emilia 2007 some of these urban areas will become the sites of permanent and temporary installations.
The first will take place in the viale Ramazzini underpass and will develop the theme of music, ethnic diversity and the dialogue between cultures and memories. It will consist of paintings and photographs accompanied by recorded music in the subway.
