Giovanni De Vito - Arcispedale Santa Maria
30 April - 30 June 2008
PELLE NERA
curated by Giovanni De Vito and Leonardo Salati
These photographs were taken in Cameroon between 2002 and 2005. They are not the final stage of a thought-out, well-defined project, but the record of a bond forged between myself and the people I photographed. The imperfections of these shots are due to a variety of factors, including the fact that the non-digital Reflex camera had a broken exposure meter, and that films were bought and developed locally with low quality materials which also suffered from the high humidity rate and hot temperatures. These are precisely the features that make the photographs original and free from technical tricks.
