Biography

FABIO DONATO

Fabio Donato was born in Naples in 1947. In the seventies, after studying architecture, he became a photographer, working in the area of art and theatre. He then extended his interests to other everyday areas, experimenting with the boundaries and possibilities of photographic language. He has had numerous exhibitions, including those at Galleria Diaframma in Milan (1971), Lucio Amelio in Naples (1979), the Museo de Arte in Saint Paul, Brazil (1981), the Venice Biennale in 1982, the Lincoln Center in New York in 1985, Studio Morra in Naples in 1998, and La Habana in 1999.
From the seventies until 2006 he worked on the series La Città (The City) in which the leading figures are urban elements, where windows, televisions and monitors are the thresholds and boundaries of private life, interfacing with the outside, or other, world. His gaze investigates, digs deep and discovers.
Fabio Donato is the author of numerous publications and the leitmotifs of his research are always the flow of time and the double, the Other, the threshold as a dividing line and the infinite multiplication of diversity. He is inspired by a projectual intention, chooses his frames and waits for the moment to “capture” his pre-selected, never casual, subject.
