Erminia De Luca was born in 1968 in San Giovanni Rotondo (Foggia). Self-taught, between 1994 and 1999 she worked in Puglia and Rome, focusing her research on subjects from floral still life to self-portraits, in particular through the use of negatives and special print processing. During this period she collaborated with the “il Fotogramma” Cultural Centre in Rome and was selected for the IV edition of the “Sebastiano Oschman Gradenigo” prize; she held exhibitions at “Istruzione e Cultura” in the city of Taranto, at Castello Aragonese and also the Palazzo Ducale in Martina Franca. The first cycle of her works ended with her participation in the Biennial of young artists of Europe and the Mediterranean at ‘Il Mattatoio’ in Rome.

In 1999 she moved to Milan and moved “away from the I”, turning her attention to natural landscapes. The subjects of this second phase of her work lie on the cusp between lightness and the quasi-abstraction the forms assume in the end. In 2003 the critic Elio Grazioli invited her to participate with a special project in the Arte all’Arte 2003 event (Arte Continua Association, San Gimignano). The video-format images are now part of the permanent collection of the Mezzadria di Buonconvento Museum in Siena. In 2005 a meeting with the critic Paola Barbara Sega led De Luca to the Il Diaframma Gallery in Milan, where in September of that year, she inaugurated her personal exhibition 25 ASA. Between 2005 and 2006 she created Gaia for the cover of “Parametro”, an international architecture and urban planning magazine, as well as seven images for the book Architetture invisibili, by the sensorial architect Anna Barbara, published by Skira. In 2007 she participated in the collective exhibition Lattuada’s Photographers organised by the Lattuada Studio in Milan, exhibiting the work Cantici in the ‘Sottopasso della Stua’ at the National Centre of Photography in Padua, overseen by Enrico Gusella. She currently lives and works in Milan.
