Cloisters of San Pietro
6th May - 12th June 2011
exclusively for the Corriere della Sera newspaper's SETTE magazine
curated by Alessandro Franco, Chiara Mariani and Cornelia Marchis
Over eighty photographers, all working on the same day of 14th January 2011, produced a portrait of Italy for what it really is. The photos, previously published in the special edition of Sette magazine of the daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, are grouped together in the exhibit “Un giorno nella vita dell’Italia” (A day in the life of Italy). The country that emerges from these images is very different from the one portrayed daily by the media, a country far removed from political and news scandals. It is a country made up of commitment, honesty, hard work, love, fears and passions. A country that is the real Italy, the Italy which has recently been celebrating its first 150 years of life.
All the photographers, in their absolute diversity of styles and backgrounds, have adhered to their commitment as journalists to provide a caption with the place, the time and a brief description of the shot. The end result is a set of photos whose common feature is that they were all taken on the same day and in the same country: Italy. It will then be up to the sensibility of each viewer to associate them according to a particular and subjective logic.
