This series by Bettina Rheims represents the fulfilment of the artist’s deep desire: to create a relationship with sculpture in her photography, exploring the idea that one can imagine the back of the human figure while seeing only the front, as if the model were suddenly visible in 3D. Bettina Rheims grew up with art and was inspired by ancient marbles: from Michelangelo’s Slaves to Rodin’s Bronzes, where bodies seem to spring from stone – a sensation that the photographer wants to transmit through this new series of portraits.
As well as original productions and the section dedicated to the works of masters from past generations to the present day, the exhibition programme of Fotografia Europea 2008 includes two prestigious exhibitions by two important protagonists from the world of photography: Edward Steichen and Bettina Rheims.

Single ticket for all exhibitions 10 €, except the Steichen exhibition for which tickets can be bought from Palazzo Magnani and the Cloisters of San Domenico. Concessions 7 € (for students, TCI, CTS, AIB members, Reggio Emilia Young Peoples’ Card, over 65s and visitors to the Steichen exhibition at Palazzo Magnani and the Cloisters of San Domenico). Free for visitors under 12, school students, the disabled and their companions, journalists and ICOM members. On 1st May and 2nd June, free for residents of the Borough of Reggio Emilia. 24th May – free tickets for the ‘white night’ event.
