Puro & Impuro

Università degli studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia
30 April - 18 May 2008

curated by Vanni Codeluppi

This exhibition has been curated by Vanni Codeluppi and other lecturers from the Faculty of Communication Sciences and Economics, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The exhibition contains hundreds of photographs taken from the media, documenting common cultural models of the body in society. It looks in particular at two extreme versions of the body – one ‘pure’ and the other ‘impure’; it is a body so carefully looked after that it becomes aesthetically perfect, thus devoid of humanity and, to some extent, ‘monstrous’ and ‘impure’. The exhibition is innovatively and spectacularly staged with images projected onto four sides of a large cube.

This photographic research project on the theme Umano troppo umano (Human, Too Human) together with projects by Bruno Cattani, Benedetta Alfieri, Nicola Vinci, Fabio Donato, Nicola Vinci, Jarno Zaffelli and Elio Mazzacane enhances and completes the exhibitions on offer at Fotografia Europea 2008.
