Sonia Panciroli, the winner of the 2009 OFF competition, describes her project for Fotografia Europea 2010 through these words: “A photo report of simplicity. I am entranced by the smiles, the glances, their way of living, the dignity of the way they go about their work, their small worlds. This is what enchants me, their having nothing and having everything. … the joy of living...”.
Sonia Panciroli was born in Correggio in August 1974. She is currently living and working in Reggio Emilia. She approached photography thanks to her father, who gave her an old manual Reflex Minolta as a present and taught her how to use it. In 1995 she participated in her first photography course sponsored by the Terzocchio club in Cavriago. In subsequent years she took part in courses organized by the CNA, the ENAIP and the ARCI club in Reggio Emilia.
In 2001 she started transforming her passion into her work. She has a regular job with a photography studio in town, actively collaborating with the photographer Corrado Bertozzi, her “teacher” in the production of calendars, newspaper reports and photographic reports generally. She links photography with her passion for travelling, particularly outside the beaten tracks of mass tourism. She loves to photograph the people she meets set in their own environment and daily life.
At Orvieto Fotografia FIOF Professional PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD 2010 ha been awarded with eight Bronze Awards, 4 in category Reportage and 4 in category Research.
