Newspaper sheets lying on the floor, flashes of glass windows lit up at night in Tokyo, embroidered gestures enfolded in a fluctuating East.
A sud del Confine a Ovest del sole (South of the border, West of the Sun) introduces Alessandro Rizzi's new investigation into the Japanese universe, echoing Haruki Murakami's novel by the same name.
Like a play of shadows unveiling things, the author recognizes icons of an ancient tradition in contemporary Japanese life, and in everyday gestures he sees an elegance that suggests suspension, life for life, the erstwhile philosophy and representation of the pictorial world of Ukyo-e.
Rizzi's work conveys a perception of Tokyo that is sometimes dreamlike, while at other times it is so strongly contemporary and material as to constitute the very plot of the stories unfolding within it.
Nature and city are presented not only as backdrops to narrate the presence of men, but as autonomous, living entities, so powerful as to create and mould the materials through which we imagine ourselves and hold dialogues every day.
